Montréal
The
second largest French-speaking city in the world
Students going to Montréal have the advantage of
being at the hub of North-American history. The architecture
of Montréal is so spectacular that they’ll
think they’re walking through Europe when they head
into Old Montréal.
The city is one of Canada’s most unique and lively
cities, offering a perfect blend of the old and new. Culturally,
there are few cities that beat it. There is little doubt
that Montréal has some of the finest restaurants
and bars in North America, a daunting number of museums
located in and around the city and it goes without saying
that shoppers will swoon at the sight of Montréal’s
downtown core, with over 3,000 shops.
Among its internationally renowned festivals are the Montréal
Just for Laughs Festival, the Jazz Festival, both featuring
hundreds of different shows that attract thousands of visitors
from around the world. The musical festivals of Nuits d’Afrique
and Francofolies also offer free outdoor shows and a magical
atmosphere.
Studying French at ILSC in the heart of Montréal,
is a great way to add an educational and fun touch to your
cultural stay. In addition to offering all of Montréal’s
cultural events, school activities make the most of the
four distinct Canadian seasons. Studenst attending the school
in the summer can take up bicycling, rollerblading, kayaking,
or learn how to salsa in the summer heat. In the winter,
students can choose sports like tobogganing, skiing, and
skating, or come in from the cold for indoor rock-climbing,
and movie nights.
Perhaps the most exciting activity at ILSC-Montréal
is the Amazing Race: 15 to 20 teams of 4 students must correctly
guess the clues given to them, and successfully complete
the tasks in order to advance through the city of Montréal.
This is a gigantic treasure hunt in which students must
use their knowledge of French, their quick thinking skills,
their energy, and their knowledge of the city itself to
win the game by arriving at the designated destination first.
Aside from volunteering at local festivals and sporting
events, students can participate in the ILSC Co-op Program,
an innovative model of enriched education, combining language
studies with Canadian workplace experience. Since 2000,
they have placed approximately 175 students annually in
over 75 local companies from various industries.
Students in ILSC’s Co-op program come from diverse
professional backgrounds and have worked in such industries
as marketing, information technology, human resources, management
consulting, art, finance, education, and hospitality. ILSC’s
Co-op placements are voluntary and unpaid. Their Co-op students
are ready to volunteer their time, energy, and skills at
a local company in exchange for an opportunity to enhance
their French language skills in a workplace and learn more
about Canadian business practices. ILSC also offers a youth
program (14- to 17-years old), which combines French classes
with adventures and cultural activities, providing the basis
for lifelong friendships and fun for young learners.
Students join activities outside the classroom with the
ILSC team. Each afternoon is a new adventure!
Teens are surprised at how quickly their speaking improves
when immersed in French from breakfast until bedtime in
a homestay. Each home is monitored by ILSC’s staff
to make sure it is appropriate to accommodate a teen.
ILSC is a member of the Canadian Association of Private
Language Schools and abides by its standards of quality.
